Types of EBike | Electric Bike Rentals | E-Bike Sales

As stated on our E-bike rental page, we have many different types of Ebike available for sale and for rental. Electric bikes are quickly increasing in popularity due to their ease of use, portability, affordability, and many can reach upwards of 50 miles on a charge, with charging times of around 4-6 hours, depending on the type of bike.

Below are various types of EBike, available for rental and for sale, with descriptions of features associated with that E-bike (step-thru, folding, etc) and pictures of some of the electric bikes we currently have for sale on Prime Cart Parts. NOTE: At the time of writing, the electric bikes listed below are available at our main location in Riviera Beach, FL. When reading, they may no longer be in-store, but new and used E-bikes frequently come in to replace them. For more information on availability and stock, use our contact form to get in touch with us.

Additional note: The types of Ebike often share features with one another, and are not necessarily defined by one characteristic. For example, a city E-bike can also have fat tires, a step-thru E-bike can be a city bike as well, or a fat tire E-bike can also fold up.

Types of EBike

Fat Tire EBike

As the name suggests, fat tire E-bikes have much bigger, thicker tires than a standard electric bike, and their rugged texture and durability makes them great for using over uneven terrain, such as hiking trails and mountain paths. Often, fat tire E-bikes have wider, thicker frames as well, to match the heavier, sturdier tires, though this is not always the case.

City Types of EBike

City E-bikes are one of the most common electric bikes that we have for rental and for sale, appearing similar to a standard bicycle, often with a thin, light frame and most commonly standard-sized tires. They can either have a standard bike frame, with the seat holder connected to the front bar, or a step-thru frame, further explained in the step-thru types of Ebike section. City E-bikes also often come with a rear rack, where small bags or other belongings can be stored by riders.

Step-Thru Types of EBike

A step-thru frame on an E-bike is when the metal part of the frame connecting the front to the seat piece is curved downwards, creating a U-shaped gap between the seat and handlebars that riders can easily step through for quick mount and dismount. These types of bikes are great for older riders or riders with reduced range of motion, as the step-thru frame allows a rider to easily hop onto the bike seat without having to lift a leg high over the middle bar.

Folding EBike

A lot of Ebikes fold up for easy storage, but some are specifically designed to fold in half at the middle. These bikes are often smaller with wider frames, sometimes having smaller wheels, though many are the same standard size as the city E-bikes. Electric bikes that fold either tuck in towards the center, or fold in half in the middle – bikes that fold in half are distinguishable by the hinge on the middle piece. Handlebars can sometimes fold down as well.

Gas Golf Carts | Utility Carts | Gas Golf Cart Rental

Most of the golf carts we use for rentals are electric, since electric carts are street legal and many customers who rent do so in place of renting a car. Many customers ask about gas golf carts, as some rental locations – such as campgrounds, construction sites, and some AirBNB house rentals – don’t have a nearby outlet that an electric cart can plug into. Gas golf carts are far less common than electric ones, since they are not street legal. Most of our gas carts are used golf carts for sale – however, we are able to rent to customers when they are available.

Below are some pictures of some of the gas golf carts we have available for rental and sale – rental carts and carts for sale will be specified. NOTE: At the time of writing, the gas carts listed below are available at our main location in Riviera Beach, FL. When reading, they may no longer be in-store, but new, similar carts come in to replace them frequently. For more information on rental availability or purchase inquiries, use our contact form to get in touch with us.

Why aren’t gas carts street legal?

Gas carts used to be street legal in Florida – that is why they can sometimes be seen on public roads. However, this law was put into place somewhat recently, because gas carts cannot maintain the speed necessary to drive on roads. Electric carts have a maximum speed of 24mph, which is the required speed for a street legal low speed vehicle (LSV) to be able to drive on roads with a speed limit of 35mph or less, but gas carts can only reach an approximate speed of 15-20mph, depending on the brand and type of cart. Additionally, many gas golf carts are utility carts, with a box bed or flatbed in the back and only 2 seats. 2 passenger (as well as 8 passenger) carts – gas or electric – are not street legal; the only sizes of cart able to become certified as LSVs and driven on public roads are 4 passenger and 6 passenger.

Golf Carts for Sale Fort Lauderdale

Many of our golf carts for sale Fort Lauderdale are street legal low speed vehicles (LSVs), meaning they come with a variety of safety features such as headlights, taillights, brake lights, seatbelts, side view mirrors, horn, turn signals, windshield, and a maximum speed of 24mph. This allows the cart to be registered as an LSV and drive on public roads with a posted speed limit of 35mph or less. When purchasing these carts, they already come with a 17-digit VIN number, and only need a tag and title before they can be driven on roads. Other carts that we have for sale have all of these features, but are not yet registered. These carts are referred to as street ready. Our non street legal carts, such as 2 passenger carts and gas golf carts, can be driven on back residential roads, as well as inside gated communities, or on golf courses, construction sites, or event venues.

All golf carts come with lead-acid batteries unless otherwise specified. For any questions regarding a particular cart, such as pricing and additional specifications, contact our Fort Lauderdale office at 954-952-0869 or use our contact form to get in touch with us.

NOTE: At the time of writing, golf carts in this list are currently available. Supplies may not last – contact us for availability regarding particular carts. What makes a golf cart street legal?

All street legal golf cars that we carry are either 4 passenger or 6 passenger electric carts. Gas golf carts are not street legal because they cannot maintain the speed required for road use (24mph). 2 passenger and 8 passenger carts are also not street legal, though we do offer them for rentals.

In order for a golf cart to be street legal, it must be registered with the DMV as a low-speed vehicle (LSV), meaning it is limited to a maximum speed of 24mph. Once registered, they can be driven and parked just like a regular car. Street legal golf carts can be driven on any roads with a speed limit of 35mph or less, and must have a tag (license plate) attached to the back. The back of the vehicle must also have an orange triangle sign attached that indicates that it is an LSV.

Other qualifications for a golf cart to be street legal include:

  • Windshield + Wipers
  • Mirrors
  • Seatbelts
  • Turn signals
  • Brake lights
  • Headlights
  • Taillights
  • Side reflectors

Whether your golf cart rental is for business or pleasure, our street legal golf car rentals are a perfect means of driving around a beach town or your community, or simply cruising around on your local city streets.

How to Prepare Your Golf Cart for Long-Term Self-Storage

If you would prefer to store your golf cart on your own property rather than in a storage facility, there are several important steps to take to ensure that your golf cart stays in top condition during the off-season or time it’s not in use. Even when storing your golf cart for long periods of time, there is more to it than simply tucking the cart away in a shed for months at a time. Golf carts still require periodic maintenance when not in use, but following the right guidelines to storing your golf cart will keep it preserved and ready for when it’s time to be brought out again.

Battery Preparation

When preparing your golf cart for storage, you’ll want to first perform some basic battery maintenance. Begin by disconnecting battery cables, and clean any corrosion from the cables and battery by using a mix of baking soda and warm water (or white vinegar and water) – baking soda neutralizes acid corrosion. Fully charge the battery, as batteries will naturally self-discharge when not in use. When disconnecting the battery charger, unplug it from the AC outlet before unplugging it from the cart. Using only distilled water, refill the batteries, making sure the cart has been fully charged. Do not refill the batteries before fully charging your cart, as this can lead to electrolyte overflow.

Turn the key switch off to turn off everything on the cart, and depending on your cart, you’ll have either a Run/Tow switch or a Run/Maintenance switch. Flip this switch to “tow” or “maintenance” in order to reduce battery discharge and fire risks. Finally, disconnect the main positive and negative connections – it’s recommended to tape the connections together in order to not forget where they go.

You’ll want to periodically check in on your charge and water levels – especially in warmer climates, the water levels can slowly decrease due to evaporation, and batteries will self-discharge when left unused for extended periods of time. It’s recommended to return to your cart every 2-4 weeks and check these levels – fully recharge and refill the batteries as needed.

Tire Checks

Before putting the golf cart in storage, you’ll want to inflate your tires as high as possible without over inflating them. When the cart is stationary for long periods of time, the tires naturally deflate from the weight of the cart, possibly causing damage to the tires like flat spots. When checking in on the cart as recommended, inflate the tires every two weeks and move the cart slightly, applying pressure to a different part of the tire.

Another option is storing the golf cart off the ground – raise the cart up onto jack stands, which will take pressure off the tires and ensure that no flat spots will form.

General Cleaning

Even in the best storage, moisture will still be produced. Inspect your cart to make sure there are no rust spots, and if there are, cover them with fresh paint. Rust spots can increase from moisture in the air if left untreated, and any other markings will also worsen with extreme temperatures. Be sure to remove any crumbs that may be on the seats, as they can grow and harbor bacteria in the time the cart is stored, and make sure to clean the flooring and upholstery to prevent any possible molding. Remove any rugs or carpets, cut and polish any scratches, and replace spark plugs if needed. Other things to clean include any dirt or grime, bird or other animal droppings, mirrors, fuel, air, and oil filters, and cables and connectors.

Storage

An important tip to remember is to leave the cart in neutral when storing it, and if storing it on the ground, keep it on a level surface and surround the wheels with bricks or other heavy objects to keep it from rolling. Do not keep the parking brake engaged – this can damage the cart.

Most golf carts will fit in a 10×10 enclosed space – placing the golf cart inside is critical and will prevent any damage that could be caused by harsh weather and below freezing or exceedingly high temperatures. A garage is a good option, although it can take up space that may be needed for cars, so storing it in a small shed is another ideal choice.

Even though the cart is inside, always use a protective cover to keep dust and dirt off the cart. If you don’t have a cover specifically for golf carts, a large canvas cloth will suffice – the most important thing is simply making sure the cart is covered.

Even when not in use, your golf cart still needs periodic maintenance, so it’s important to follow these steps to ensure that your golf cart is sufficiently prepared for storage and regularly checked in on, so when it comes time to use it again, it’ll still be in top condition.
